Eco-Logical Communities is a proposed outreach program of the Applied Sustainability Center at the University of Arkansas. The University is located in Fayetteville, so naturally, Fayetteville is the first eco-logical community, the pilot city. The goal for the pilot is to enroll as many households as possible and see if there is a measurable difference in KWH used, water consumed, or waste generated. If successful, the next step will be to explore ways to expand the pilot to additional cities.
The U.S. Green Building Council—Arkansas Chapter seeks to create a legacy for future generations based on responsible planning, design, construction, and operation of the state’s buildings, landscapes, cityscapes and neighborhoods. They are a nonprofit chapter of the national U.S. Green Building Council. The local chapter organizes monthly educational meetings and social activities, and supports the state’s annual conference emphasizing real world applications and solutions to the evolving sustainability movement in our state and nation.
