Event Recognizes Region’s Top CTE Students

Leaders from a recognition program saluting achievement in career and technical education presented honors to several Northwest Arkansas high school students on Thursday night.

Three Springdale High School students were among the six recipients of the Regional Student Career and Technical Leadership Award.

Representatives from the Northwest Arkansas Council, NorthWest Arkansas Community College, Northwest Arkansas Education Service Cooperative and Northwest Technical Institute honored the students at a reception at the Northwest Arkansas Council offices. The top three students will receive $1,000 scholarships to NorthWest Arkansas Community College or Northwest Technical Institute to continue to advance their career and technical education skills.

The award recipients were Julissa Calderon, Springdale High School, television and broadcasting; Robert Nakasone, Springdale High School, television and broadcasting; and Alex Kennedy, Siloam Springs High School, health professions.

Honorable mention recipients were Diego Magana, Springdale High School, television and broadcasting; Kassandra Dankers, Farmington High School, health professions; and Brieann Ward, Gentry High School, health professions.
