Northwest Arkansas ranks No. 2 in the nation when it comes to minority-owned businesses, according to an articile in a national business magazine.

Fast Company published the analysis by the online publication Nerdwallet last week that determined the only place in the nation that’s better for minority-owned businesses than Northwest Arkansas is the San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara Metropolitan Statistical Area in California. Nerdwallet is a financial website with offices in San Francisco.

The anaylysis included regions with more than 250,000 residents and then took into consideration a Census Bureau survey of business owners to evaluate each community’s business climate. The overall health of the local economy and access to loans were also facted into the results.

Ranked immediately after San Jose and Northwest Arkansas were Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Seattle; Madison, Wisconsin; San Francisco; Santa Rosa, California; Ogden, Utah; Salt Lake City; and Austin, Texas.

Special thanks to our major investors for their support of the Northwest Arkansas Council and our work in the region:
