Northwest Arkansas benefits from the incredible number of nonstop destinations from the regional airport, and the options increase later today when American Airlines restarts service to Los Angeles.
American Airlines, which provides more daily flights than the other airlines serving the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport, announced in June that it would start providing the Los Angeles International Airport service today.
The airport’s 13 daily nonstop destinations are Atlanta, New York LaGuardia, Detroit, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth, Cincinnati, Denver, Minneapolis, Memphis, Charlotte, Houston, Newark and Los Angeles. There are about 48 daily flights.
Additionally, Allegiant Air provides twice-a-week service to Las Vegas and Orlando. Allegiant expands its service seasonally.
Few regional airports in the South and Midwest can match XNA’s high number of nonstop destinations and flights provided by American, Delta, United and U.S. Airways. Those direct flights reduce travel time, which is important to business and leisure travelers.
LAX is an especially important stop for international travelers. It’s considered one of the West Coast’s best places to connect to international flights bound for Asia and Australia.
Airport administrators remain interested in expanding air service, and there’s high interest in attracting a low-cost carrier to provide daily service. A survey of the region’s business community, conducted by the Northwest Arkansas Council staff, showed business leaders want to see a low-cost carrier create competition on routes to Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth and New York.
